While ultra-popular surf destinations like Costa Rica are beginning to be overrun with tourism, traveling surfers are just now starting to take note of other Central American countries like Panama. The Panamanian coast and surrounding islands boast year-round swell with solid surf April through October. The many beaches of Las Secas, which are composed of calcium carbonate sand from shell and coral fragments, can be found hidden away in protected coves or jagged inlets. Lined with coconut palm trees and dense growth, these sandy beaches offer incredible views. The warm shallow waters surrounding these beaches have been described as "so clear in places that they are almost transparent."

Possibly, the most intriguing aspect of Las Secas is the abundance of fauna on the islands and in the region. Functioning as a protected habitat for a number of animal species, the islands have become an exquisite place to observe these creatures in their natural living environment. Some of the more rare animals include:
• Four species of sea turtles (Green, Leatherback, Hawksbill, Olive Ridley)
• Hump-backed and Orca whales
• Birds – a variety of hummingbirds, raptors, sea birds, and neotropical
migrants.

While there is much to do on Islas Secas, sometimes the best vacation consists of doing very little. Take in spectacular sunrises from your private balcony, enjoy a professional massage, body scrub, or facial, read a book, savor delicious meals and then watch the tranquil sunset from the same spot you started your perfect day.
