Activities

Once arriving at Las Secas, there is never a shortage of things to do. There are beautiful reefs for snorkeling, scuba diving in the deeper waters, or kayaking the calm bays to explore caves and coves. Also incredible sport fishing and spear fishing is just a boat ride away. Only 12 miles away, world famous Morro Negrito offers reef and sand breaks that create perfect barrels for those surfers who are seeking a less crowded wave. Everyone from the water-sport enthusiast to the adventurous hiker will find that this amazing environment caters to any individual's activity of choice. For those who'd rather sip an ice cold cocktail on your private veranda as the sun sets and the fish and dolphins play, just say the word.

  • Diving & Snorkeling

The islands of this beautiful archipelago just off the coast of Panama are perfect for diving and snorkeling. The snorkeling is so good in these waters, that you may decide you don't need to dive. Like other islands in Panama, there are few tourists, so you enjoy snorkeling in virtually pristine waters. The diving has been described as a mixture between the Galapagos Islands and the Cocos Islands, Costa Rica. The water temperature at the surface is around the low 80's, however thermoclines are common at depth dropping the temperature to the mid 70's. With a little luck, whether snorkeling or diving, you may encounter Sea Turtles, Dolphins, Humpback Whales and brightly colored tropical fish.

  • Exploring

Once inhabited by native Chiriqui, Las Secas has become an incredible location to venture. Inlets thick with vegetation and rugged hills 100 meters or more in height are the staple of this offshore island chain. For those adventurous enough to explore the lush terrain, everything from waterfalls to jagged cliffs can be observed. You will be amazed at notice the diverse variety of trees and exotic flowers that thrive in this tropical zone.

  • Sport Fishing

Fishing Species – Billfish, Dorado, Tuna, Sailfish, Marlin, Wahoo.
The peak season for Billfish is December through April, with the prime months being January, February and March. Primarily, the winter months have been the best for Billfish. For Blue Marlin and Black Marlin, live bait such as small tuna or larger size Bonita have been used. Also, large Tuna become abundant during March and April. Inshore fishing also include Cubera Snapper, Amberjack, Grouper, Dogtooth Snapper and a number of others.

  • Surfing

Panama is a relatively untapped resource within the global surf scene. While ultra-popular surf destinations like Costa Rica are beginning to be overrun with tourism, traveling surfers are just now starting to take note of other Central American countries like Panama. The Panamanian coast and surrounding islands boast year-round swell with solid surf April through October. Only 12 miles away, world famous Morro Negrito offers reef and sand breaks that create perfect barrels for those surfers who are seeking a less crowded wave. We can arrange single or multi day excursions for our guests with the folks at Morro Negrito.

  • Beaches

The many beaches of Las Secas, which are composed of calcium carbonate sand from shell and coral fragments, can be found hidden away in protected coves or jagged inlets. Lined with coconut palm trees and dense growth, these sandy beaches offer incredible views. The warm shallow waters surrounding these beaches have been described as "so clear in places that they are almost transparent."

  • Wild life

Possibly, the most intriguing aspect of Las Secas is the abundance of fauna on the islands and in the region. Functioning as a protected habitat for a number of animal species, the islands have become an exquisite place to observe these creatures in their natural living environment. Some of the more rare animals include:

• Four species of sea turtles (Green, Leatherback, Hawksbill, Olive Ridley)
• Hump-backed and Orca whales
• Birds – a variety of hummingbirds, raptors, sea birds, and neotropical
  migrants.

  • Relaxation

While there is much to do on Islas Secas, sometimes the best vacation consists of doing very little. Take in spectacular sunrises from your private balcony, enjoy a professional massage, body scrub, or facial, read a book, savor delicious meals and then watch the tranquil sunset from the same spot you started your perfect day.
